European Turkish Business Development Center (ABİGEM) Projects have started in March 2002 in the framework of the Financial Treaty which was held in May 2002 between EU and the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey. ABİGEM initially established in 3 cities, Gaziantep, Kocaeli, İzmir- is providing professional management consultancy and training services in order to help the SME’s develop their potential and increase their competitiveness.
The Project pursues the goal of supporting the regional economic development and strengthening the production and service industry and contributing the employment facilities.
The performance of the ABİGEMs which has chosen the most successful Project of the EU in Turkey has led Turkish and the European authorities to build new ABİGEM’s and they decided to expand the project. In 7 years around 10.000 SME’s have benefited from these organizations in İzmir, Gaziantep and Kocaeli until today. The establishing process has started in Adana, Eskişehir, Kayseri, Konya, Denizli, Trabzon, Afyon, Çorum, Erzurum, Uşak, Trakya and Malatya and the centers are now providing their services. The validation time of the expansion of the project -which will be performed in 12 cities- is 2 years and the amount of the total donations are 24,5 million Euros. A budget of 12 million € is reserved for the cities of Adana, Trabzon, Eskişehir, Kayseri, Konya and Denizli which have been considered as a whole. Purchasing of the equipments, employment costs and special project enforcements will be provided with this non-recourse capital.
Adana ABİGEM has completed its infrastructure in December 2008 and has been providing services since January 2009 with the financial support of the EU Commision, TOBB and theATO and with the partnership of ATO, ATBO and the TOBB. On March 2009, ABİGEM has reached its legal personality under the name of “European Turkish Business Development Center”
ABİGEM’s will provide consultancy services to 1500 SME’s, train 3500 people on business related subjects and provide consultancy to 750 people who intends to start-up a new business. In the end of the Project, ABİGEM’s will carry on providing business development services.
